The equipment store is currently managed entirely by volunteers, and so with limited space we are currently only stocking those items unique to Shintaido, as well as a certain amount of British Shintaido merchandise. For the same reason we do not normally supply any items to people who are not current Shintaido practitioners.
Merchandise and books can be ordered on-line via our Paypal shopping cart. These items are easily identified by the blue "Add to Basket" button! Other items are usually only available at BS events, or by e-mailing equipment@shintaido.co.uk
We do not currently stock keiko-gi (although we do have a few left-over bits & peices from the days when we did!) The reason for this is that suitable karate keiko-gi are readily available in a wide range of quality & price, both on-line and at martial arts stores across the country. It simply isn't possible for us to compete and offer you the best deal. We do however stock the white tabi & hakama which are unique to Shintaido practice. So if you can't find what you need here please use our external equipment links to find it.
Postage is free for merchandise orders of £60 or more!
This is a selection of equipment we currently have in stock. Your local club may also sell equipment, including keiko-gi and various wooden staff. Britsh Shintaido aims to stock harder-to-get items which are not easily available elsewhere, so if you are looking for something, do please ask.
Traditional white Shintaido tabi. As far as we know these are not available anywhere else in the UK (although if you know different we'd love to hear about it!)
Because of limited stock these are available to Shintaido practitioners only.
BS members: £20.00, non-members: £22.00
Most karate-gi come with a white obi as standard, but if you've lost it (or only have a coloured belt because you've been studying karate elsewhere) we do have a good stock of these.
BS members: £5.00, non-members: £6.00
White hakama bought from Japanese Shintaido with the "Shintaido" kanji embroidered on the back. We do have a limited range of sizes in stock. If these don't suit we will try to order from Japan according to need whenever we can.
BS members, graduate or sho-dan & above only: £75.00 (very low stock)
Labels to sew onto karate-gi bought elsewhere. You need 2, one for the jacket & one for the obi.
BS members: £ FREE
Cloth cases made with much love and in a variety of colours to look after your bo, jo & bokuto. They have an inner lining and a length of "magic cord" to tie it shut. We are currently out of stock and looking for a new supplier, so if you are handy with a sewing machine and looking for a (very small) extra income, please get in touch!
£ price subject to negotiation with new supplier.
Best quality 7mm diameter non-slip cotton cord to tie your bo & bokuto case. Available in natural cotton & a wide variety of dyed colours and weaves. This is much better than the slippy nylon ones which many people use, and won't untie itself!
For a 2 metre length. BS members: £1.50, non-members: £2
If you are taking a bo to Japan you will need this as an external case to protect your bo & its case from the air-traffic controllers! At 4" diameter it will hold 2 bo strapped together quite easily.
Price: 50p per 2 metre length
We've teamed up with Paramount Embroidery to bring you clothing bearing the British Shintaido logo. We carry a limited stock of these to sell at our own events, but the range of clothing available to individual order is simply enormous! Below is a small selection of items we've already had made.

Essential reading for all bojutsu students. This book is no longer in print, and we are now out of stock, however it is easily available on-line from Amazon. If you buy one by clicking the link to the left than BS gets a (very small) commission!
A moving account of one man's Shintaido journey. Authour Michael Thompson is now one of only 4 "doshu" (Shintaido Masters) in the world. Highly recommended.

A range of booklets printed by Shintaido of America
These, as well as a number of other booklets & instructional videos, are also available from Shinatido of America. They will happily deliver to the UK (might be cheaper with the current price of the US$!)
These sites can help you buy stuff that we can't supply. If you know of others which should be listed here, do please let us know.
Paragon sell wooden staff (bo, jo & bokken). Those grouped under Training Weapons are not made to Shintaido standards, but might be suitable for beginners or as a second bo for hitori-geiko (own practice). They sell some more expensive Japanese Crafted Weapons but I don't know what these are like. Please don't buy a tapered bo for Shintaido.
French Shintaido currently have a good source of high quality handmade bo, which we highly recommend. Do get in touch with them about this if you are planning to visit France.
Shintaido bokuto. We do not currently have a supplier for the traditional straight Shintaido bokuto, although they can be bought in Japan if you are visiting there. We are trying to find a UK supplier at present.
Paragon also sell karate keiko-gi in variety of qualities. If you have a choice you should buy traditional Japanese cut rather than European cut keiko-gi. After buying your keiko-gi, please contact us to provide the free "Shintaido" labels to replace the karate ones it came with.
Cool East Market sell tall white tabi boots. Taller than the Japanese ones we sell, they have a stronger sole and rubberised edges, making them particularly suitable for outdoor practice. You can also go mad and buy them with stars or flowers painted on! They say they might introduce a low top, ankle length version in white in the near future, so do e-mail them about this.
