British Shintaido (BS) is the official Shintaido organisation in the UK. It runs workshops and courses throughout the year, holds bi-annual examinations, and supervises the teaching of Shintaido. It runs the "British Shintaido College" (BSC) to which all practicing Shintaido instructors in the UK automatically belong, and which organises regular instructors' training sessions at various central locations within the UK. It also offers support, both on an advisory and financial level, to those actively involved and setting up or running a local Shintaido Club in their area, whatever their level of qualification.
One of the principal aims of British Shintaido is to ensure the integrity of the Shintaido curriculum, however it is taught. This is acheived by working closely with sister organisations all over the world, principally through the European Shintaido College and also the International Shintaido Federation.
The organisation is run entirely by the voluntary work of those for whom Shintaido has played an important part in their lives, and is supported only by the membership fees of BS supporters. This website is our way of keeping in touch with you. Use the menu to the left to find out what we do, how & where we do it, and how you can get involved!

The Gower is very much our spiritual "Home" in the UK. Major Shintaido events have been held on this long stretch of sand for over 30 years. Here are some photos taken at Daienshu events in the past.

If you enjoy Shintaido you'll want to join us! Regular practitioners are encouraged to become supporters of BS for a small monthly fee (currently £2.50, or £30 per annum).
Benefits of membership include discounts at BS events (& also equipment purchases) as well as Taimyo magazine. It is also a requirement if you wish to take exams. For most people, however, it's mainly a way to demonstrate their support for the UK Shintaido movement.
